Shelly Brooks

Licensed Professional Counselor by Temporary LicensE

Do you feel like you are living on edge? Is your world one tangled bundle of stress and responsibilities? Have you have lost touch with yourself? Do you feel powerless or alone sometimes? Is it difficult or rare to experience hope or joy? I can help you find yourself among the tangle and navigate a path through the storm.

I recognize people cope with trauma and stress in different ways. Together, we can find healthy methods to address and cope with the difficulties. I recognize that childhood trauma can affect your health today. Research in neuroscience teaches us more and more about the brain-body connections, and how our flight, fight, or freeze reactions affect our short-term and long-term health. Together, we can explore the trauma and emotions you may have felt and begin a journey for a healthier you. I can help you develop tools to manage panic attacks. I recognize systemic injustices prohibit people from getting basic needs met and can cause daily trauma. This is not something one person can change. However, together, we can explore how the oppression and injustices impact your well-being as well as possible steps for empowerment.

As a parent, former teacher, and a caregiver for elderly parents, I know the stresses of balancing work and family life. I am aware that parents and caregivers do not always have enough support. I have experience working with survivors of domestic violence, people impacted by incarceration, and survivors of child abuse.

Together we will build on your strengths to navigate a path for a more hopeful and empowered you.
